Cryptext Privacy Policy

Cryptext Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 12, 2026

Cryptext is a browser extension for encrypting and decrypting text in your browser. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.

Data We Collect

Cryptext does not collect, sell, share, or transfer personal data to the developer or to any developer-operated server.

The extension does not use analytics, tracking pixels, advertising identifiers, or behavioral profiling.

Data Processed Locally

Cryptext processes the following data locally in your browser when you use the extension:

  • Text you type into the extension popup.
  • Text you select on a webpage when using the right-click encrypt or decrypt actions.
  • The passphrase you enter for encryption or decryption.
  • Extension settings, such as whether auto-copy is enabled.
  • The last encrypted or decrypted output, stored locally so it can be shown in the popup.

Encryption and decryption are performed locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your plaintext, encrypted text, and passphrases are not sent to Cryptext servers. Cryptext does not operate any servers for this extension.

Storage

Cryptext uses Chrome extension storage on your device to save:

  • The auto-copy setting.
  • The most recent encrypted or decrypted output.

Passphrases are not saved by the extension.

You can clear the saved output from the extension popup. You can also remove all extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing the extension's site data through your browser settings.

Clipboard Access

If auto-copy is enabled, Cryptext copies encrypted or decrypted output to your clipboard after processing. Clipboard access is used only for this user-facing feature.

Website Access

Cryptext runs on webpages so it can detect selected text and replace selected text with encrypted or decrypted output when you request it. The extension does not read all page content, monitor browsing history, or send page content elsewhere.

Third-Party Links And Resources

The extension popup includes a support link to Ko-fi. Opening that link takes you to a third-party website governed by its own privacy policy.

Some user interface assets may be loaded from third-party content delivery networks. Those third parties may receive standard request information, such as your IP address and browser request metadata, when the popup loads those assets.

Data Sharing

Cryptext does not share user data with the developer, advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.

Changes To This Policy

This policy may be updated if the extension's functionality or data handling changes. Updates will be included with the extension or its public listing.

Contact

For privacy questions, contact the developer through the Chrome Web Store listing or the repository where you obtained the extension.
